Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.
- Pablo Picasso
Imagine yourself as a three year old child. Maybe you loved making mud pies, or scribbling all over the page (and walls?!) with crayons. You loved creating and you did it effortlessly.
Is your Inner Artist still playful and uninhibited?
This July we’ll be exploring one of my favourite aspects of The Artist’s Way programme: reconnecting to your inner child. The book encourages us to revisit favourite childhood places, remember our childhood dreams, and - most importantly - be playful, fun and curious again: to colour outside the lines.
My inner creative child came to life again during my artist dates. I visited medieval castles and rediscovered my childhood love of history. In the Courtauld Gallery in London I stood in awe before the Impressionist masterpieces, just like when I was a little girl. I also picked up my video camera to make a movie again, like I did when I was a kid.
How can you reconnect to your inner child?
Visit a favourite childhood place
Do something you loved doing as a child
Get some childhood creative materials (play-doh, crayons, finger-paint etc)
Watch a favourite childhood movie
Get your favourite childhood treat and eat it!
This month at The Artist’s Toolbox, we’ll be connecting to our inner creative child!
We would love for you to join our complementary session on Wednesday 9th July at midday Californian time. We’ll be exploring the inner child exercises from The Artist’s Way. You can sign up following the link below:
For our members, we have three additional creative sessions lined up for you! We’ll be co-writing our morning pages, creating together on a playful artist date and reflecting on the month’s experience in a creative circle. Members will also receive replays of all our sessions.
